blurry photos

I just installed Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0 (build 179) on my computer. I am able to view and render videos without any problems. However, the photos that I import are blurry.

My initial thought was it was just a preview problem, but the photos are blurry when I render the file. I also tired importing photos through the media import option and through the slideshow, but it doesn't seam to make a difference. All of the photos are blurry.

I have a really old version of Vegas Movie Studio and I never had problems with my photos becoming blurry.

Any suggestions??

What do you mean by blurry? Just fuzzy or do they have a specific blur (eg. motion). There are two main potential issues here (plus a host of possibilities too).

1 - Check the preview window. Make sure it says Best>Full. This isn't the best way to edit as it takes processing power and may slow down your editing.

2- What are you rendering to? If DVD, keep in mind the that the resolution is 720x480 is less than 1 MP. HD/Blu-Ray is better at 1920x1080 is still only 2.1 MP. Far less resolution than typical cameras these days at 10+ MP. SO, they will never come out as sharp as they were.

With that in mind, what type of photo are you bringing in? What format are you rendering to?

The photos were fuzzy/not clear. I didn't add any blur to the JPEG images.

1 - I changed the preview window to 'Best(Full)', which helped when I played the file on the timeline on the smaller images (i.e. 5MB). However, I noticed that it automatically changed preview from 'Best(Full) on the larger images (i.e. 10+MB) to 'Preview(Half)' which is blurry.

2 - I'm putting the avi files on my computer. Then I plan on taking multiple avi files which will contain photos, music, text and/or videos to making one large DVD.

When I initially rendered the avi file the template option on the 'Render As' tab was listed as NTSC DV and the avi file came out blurry. Now I set the template option to Uncompressed and the avi file looks good, not blurry.

Is the Uncompressed version the best option to use for rendering?

Thanks for you help. :)

You're going to need to resize your photos outside of VMS to get better results.

Here's a thread I pulled out of the way back machine using Search....

No Uncompressed isn't better, it just creates a huge file that will still have to be encoded for DVD.
