I didn't receive this e-mail. Which one of the many divisions of Sony is doing this?

The late Terry Melcher lived just a few houses up the road. I know damn well what he would have thought ...

If you don't know the reference, Google his name.

I don't get it. Why don't you all just spit out the truth here? Very frustrating to hear/read and then not have an idea as to what it is about.

Done Google, and get Doris day with your "neighbour" up the road to you.

Agreed, the reference comes from the latest SCS email that mentions the work done to restore the soundtrack to Lucifer Rising.
Quote of the exact wording for those who missed the email or who cannot find the reference:

"For the room ambiance Acoustic Mirror™ was used as per Bobby's (Beausoleil, composer and performer) direction. This is one of his favorite programs and was used extensively in the process.

For those who don't know who Bobby Beausoleil is:

An interesting read on the creation of the soundtrack here:

As to what I think about Sony mentioning one of their products being used to restore a historical work. All I can say is WTF. Lucifer Rising is a historical work, I have no clue as to its worth or content but that's not the call of a restorer. Good or bad, everything deserves preserving. If we loose the bad parts of our history we will never move forward.

Bob, understood - but what HAS this got to do with the Manson Family, Doris day's friend who's the neighbour done the road?

"If we loose the bad parts of our history we will never move forward. " - yes! And DOUBLE YES! And, IMHO, confounding clarity has the same effect - well it does on me.

"what HAS this got to do with the Manson Family"

Bobby Beausoleil was a member of the Manson Family, still doing time for his involvement. The music was recorded in prison.

"Doris day's friend who's the neighbour done the road"

Sorry that escapes me, maybe a relative of one of the victims of the Helter Skelter murders.

Bob, yes I understand the Manson thing, but it was JM mention aboiove that had me searching for his neighbor's connection which connected to Doris Day!

See JM note above and do a search on that chap's name. AND when all this is down and dusted what has this chap got to do with the Manson stuff? Oh my, the power of knowledge.

I can't say for cerrtain what JM intended you to find but I did find this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Melcher

Sorry that's about the best I could find. Been decades since I read several books about these events. Then only yesterday Roman Polanski came up in polite conversation and today this.......here.

The Manson/Melcher reference is right there in the Wikipedia entry already given and which is the first hit on Google. You just have to scroll down and read it.

The short version: Melcher was both the motivation for and the target of the horrific mass murder perpetrated by the Manson "family" which resulted in the deaths of Sharon Tate (the girlfriend of Roman Polanski, now back in the news for other horrible stuff), Jay Sebring, and others.

Melcher was a fairly big-time music producer, with clients including The Byrds, and was considering producing Manson's music (Manson was apparently an OK musician). Melcher backed off as he began to realize that Manson was nuts. Manson got mad, found out where Melcher had been staying, and then sent out the hit squad.

They got the wrong people.

Melcher figured Manson would try again and indeed Manson was able to continue to send his follower out to do horrible things, most notably the failed assassination attempt of President Gerald Ford by "Squeaky" Fromm.

Melcher was also Doris Day's son, but that doesn't have anything to do with this particular story.

I could go on, but the point is that if Terry was still alive (he died of cancer a few years ago) he would have been horrified, since the original Manson murders resulted from his involvement as a music producer and his decision NOT to produce their music; and because he was the intended victim; and because he spent his entire life living behind some serious security that rivals Ft. Knox.
