Bobs simple wish list.

Well it's hardly a list as it's only one thing.
A better PTT function.

That's it, see that wasn't hard now was it.
Here my winge, Vegas lets you add tone and bars plus black as per industry standard. Except when I specify the start TC that should be the program start TC, not when the leader starts. Yeah I know one could do all sorts of mental arithmetic but damn it all, we are using a computer to do this, can't it be made to compute.
Maybe this is scriptable, in that case being able to insert a standard slate would be nice as well, slate could be filled in from data in project properties, duration info could also be derived form the project file.

OK, now I'm on a roll, sorry can't stop. Also, please can the render template be save along with the project, simple idea for when you do a LOT of projects in a day. I might render over 100 audio files to mp3 in a day. But if I have to go back and change them I have to retype all the ID3 tag data, what a pain. Same goes to some extent for mpeg encoding. Sure I could create custome templates for each and every one, probably have to give them names that match the project name, bit of a pain really. Shouldn't wear out too many red pencils coding either of those I think.
Bob.

.. oooh .. .

Winge#1
1/- Save Veg > My Folder

2/- Save Veg As (again My Folder )

3/- Render As > Render As folder ( Good! )

4/- Save Veg As ( again ) > RENDER AS FOLDER! . . why?

Winge #2
Why does "Capture" kick me to my C drive, when I want to create a New Capture folder - when the last Capture was anything other than C: ?

Grazie

Feel free to add those Grazie, I agree major PIA. I wouldn't mind if it was just the "C" drive but it's some silly default folder buried about 10 level deep. I have a LOT of drives on my systems and the navigation window is very small so finding the drive is a big source of frustration.
And have you noticed every time you go to build a DVD, DVDA creates another folder on the C drive, even if you don't write anything to it?

Again,
Add this to the other list of basic editing quirks, inconveniences, and defects and THIS time if they make no attempt to improve the basic editing part of Vegas 6 as they have not done in the past three versions.......Don't buy it.
Otherwise they will never change it.

I didn't get a single reply to a post I made :
"Close media files when not the active application.
If I uncheck this in prefs shouldn't my files in the media pool not grey out when I open vidcap? It can be a bit of a pain to have to reload the project to get them back...especially if I'm doing something to where I don't even need to save the veg (to get them back in that scenario I have to save as a veg and then open it. What am i missing please?"
I would "Add this to the other list of basic editing quirks, inconveniences, and defects..." but after getting no replies. I wonder if this is just me that it happens to.

Randy,
That's what happens. Period. It shouldn't happen so you can add it to the list fo things to change in Vegas 7 because I can guarantee sweeping changes are not coming to the basic editor in Version 6. All these complaints about Sony not giving us what we really want should have been brought up right after I started posting about boycotting Vegas 5 and Vegas 5 turned out to have the same lack of changes the other versions were missing. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think so. So the solution is not to buy it if significant improvements have not been made. I almost bought it just to get DVDA 2, but changed my mind. I am glad I did because DVDA 2 turned out to be a joke.

JJ,

Do have any alternate suggestions to get them to make some changes in the basic editor and REALLY put the effort in to get rid of that dreadful "flash frame" problem?

Thing is I don't do much 'editing' and most of what I do could be done in any basic editor, in fact I edit more audio than video. But I do introduce a few old hands to Vegas and it's the basics that are a real worry. All the bells and whistles stuff I just can't get them excited about when the basics aren't there.
What's so frustrating is they are so damn basic, things like lack of proper audio / video track sync locking and even more basic, track locking.
Trying to teach anyone that's had editing experience how to use Vegas sure isn't easy, It's not until you do that that you realise just how twitchy too many things are, we all get used to them and just kind of ignore them.
Like last week I explained to a guy how to use event cropping, great except I forgot to explain about keyframes, so he ends up with the event doing a zoom. Then he asks how to lock tracks and how come his audio got out of sync with his vision and has anyone noticed how easy it is to put two copies of the same media onto the TL at the same place and how difficult it is to see that it's happened until something really wierd goes wrong.
Sorry to whine on, this doesn't affect me directly but I can see why more than a few are getting pretty frustrated.
Bob.

I love this part of the Vegas "features"

Powerful Editing Tools
Efficiently edit and arrange events on the Vegas timeline using drag-and-drop operations. Apply real-time effects, transitions, envelopes, color changes, reverse, time-stretching and motion effects. Expertly edit complex SD or HD long-form projects using mouse or keyboard trimming along with powerful ripple editing modes.

Especially the part about the "powerful" Ripple editing. It's powerful alright. Every time I go to use it I end up in the bathroom.
