Bokeh in Movie Studio?

Hei! Have some footage where I didnt realize I was shooting at F8 and of course everything is perfectly defined in the field. To salvage things, was wondering if there's any bokeh post-production tool or plugin which works with Movie Studio (or even a technique) which can blur certain selected parts of the footage. After Effects seems to have it, so maybe also movie studio (I have Platinum 13.

Thx!

What i've done for a soft focus effect is to duplicate the video so that you have two copies on the timeline, one on a track above the other, then add a blur effect to the upper one. Now reduce the opacity of the upper blurred one so that it is mixed with the unblurred version. The amount of blending will give you varying a effect and allow you to chose how much blur you want. Of course, you can adjust the strength of the blur effect as well.

Simply do this for the portions of the video that need it, and leave the upper track empty where you don't want it.

There are a number of plugins that you can buy that will help. For example, check out NewBlue's Selective Focus in the Essentials Collection. (newbluefx.com). I'm not sure if it works with Movie Studio, but perhaps look at a trial of Boris FX Blur and Sharpen? It works with the Pro version.

If you are using MS 13 suite, use the New Blue Selective focus filter that is included free with the suite.

Just a question - when you say "the portions of the video" you mean the footage from a certain time to another time, or a portion of an event? Haven't found yet any masking option in Movie Studio (just begun with it really).

Thx!

Thanks everybody, much appreciated. I'm using platinum so no Blue selective, I'll see if there is a trial and for 79USD it may be worth upgrading to Suite.

Cookie cutter ( in video effects ) might help. although it is rather crude - more suited to blurring-out one face in a crowd, or single adverts in a pan ( but needs Keyframing to move it about.). This was available in v10 and maybe earlier.

I guess you're after a Pro-like feature which is just not available with the basic software. Did you see the LYTRO camera ( Stills presently ) which allows the focus to be changed after shooting. It really does.

Good luck.
