Mostly. A couple of pictures were cropped in Photoshop, masking the main pumpkin and my son's face. Also I tweaked a copy of my son's face and made one eye closed, and overlaying/transitioning the two made the wink.

The cool thing is that my son's face is a clear detailed color photo. I blow out the colors with curves to taste, and use color balance to make it essentially a b&w mask. So essentially I can use virtually any photo or even video footage to make the pumpkin face. There are two nearly identical tracks of this, one slightly smaller to get the 3D effect of the pumpkin cutouts.

The two video elements are the back of the pumpkin (yes, I chopped the front face of a jackolantern so I could get footage of a candle against the inside) and the smoke, which is dry ice against a black background. I still need a little work on the smoke.

Lower Veg: main pumpkin (screen) inside pumpkin (multiply mask), face 1 and 2 (screen)
Main veg: smoke, background pic, lower veg.
