I know about Spot's book, but I was hoping that there was something else out there. Unlike some others on the Forum I have don't have any agenda vis a vis Sony, Spot etc. I haven't been around here long enough to have an informed opinion.
Keeping that in mind I say the following: I have bought a lot of books on Amazon.com over the years I cannot remember seeing any reviews as bad as the ones (plural) that Spot's book received.
It could well be that those who posted the reviews had a negative agenda. I don't know. What I do know is that the reviews were horrendous. Had they been good, I would have bought the book without blinking.
“Vegas 6 Revealed: The Official Guide" by Doug Sahlin is a very good book about Vegas 6. It’s right to the point and covers much of the main parts of Vegas.
(as written on the Amazon website)
I am the author of this book, and as some of the reviews indicate, I'm horribly embarassed by the quality of editing that this book received. I assure you that the manuscripts turned in are not what ended up on paper.
This is the reason I chose to not write a Vegas 7 Editing Workshop book, because of how this book was treated by CMP Publishing.
Please note that the majority of the reviews are regarding typographical errors, and at least one of the reviews is significantly exaggerated, in my opinion. That said, CMP should have never allowed this book to be published as it was edited.
My apologies to those that felt slighted by the typographical errors in the book. Although the publisher hired an editor to edit the book (which I did not see in galley or blue-line form prior to publishing), I am solely responsible for any errors, typographical or factual.
I have both books mentioned above .. Sahlin and Spots...both good -- both worth the investment -- small price to pay for someone starting out in Vegas.
I have Spot's book - and as mentioned previously the editing (or lack thereof) is annoying, but the material is really what you want - and that is quite helpful. It's amzing the things I didn't know, and that book helps a great deal.
Agree 100% on the usefulness and longevity of Spot's Vegas Editing Workshop books. I bought both 5 and 6. I've referred to them often when learning new concepts. I wish there was one for version 7, but just as good (or better) are the Absolute Training dvd's from vasst on Vegas. Mentioned here several times, also highly recommended. Glenn's and Spot's DVD on Color Correction is the bomb.
