Border FX

Is there a way (including plugin purchase) to get additional fx on an event's border? I'm looking for an option just like the internal Vegas fx of Soft Edge/Bevel, but with additional border fx such as fire, haziness, picture frame, etc. I just purchased Particul Illusion, so I'm not looking for fx AROUND the event, but fx that actually modifies the event edges themselves. I'm also not looking just for a static effect that I could do in Photoshop but an fx that has movement/animation to it.

And [as he asks for the world on a plate], if there IS a plugin, I'd love to not have to learn a whole new system... it'd be great if it's just a plugin that I just drag up to the event, modify a few keyframes, and I'm on my way.

Great Idea of yours!

What I'd be exploring - love Pi too! - as you are wanting to interact with media, would be to to use a concocted Pi flame thing that matches the borders FROM Pi, save the ALPHA channel, and composite the Flaming-border as part of a Child<>Parent - maybe even using Burn! - But this HAS to be very do-able.

You got me thinking . . . .

Grazie,
We're on the same wavelength here. I was thinking that I may have to resort to exactly what you said in Pi, but if there was an easy fx option in Vegas, that would be a powerful option.

Maybe some VASST or Excalibur interest in this as an upcoming option??

Try animated mattes

For example I did TV ads for Joe Jackson’s concert in SA
I placed a white panel inside a black panel in the graphics editor
In PI on the edges of the white panel I placed some animated white and grey music notes
Save as a normal AVI

You only need black and white and half tones or shades for your matte

In Vegas use this as a matte on track 1 parent multiply
On track 2 child your video clip or pics
So in the final clip I had Joe doing his “LOOK SHARP” numb. And the video clip was breaking up into music notes on the frame

With PI can generate some great mattes or animated wipe transitions very quickly

Rory,
That's a great idea. I'll do some work with that. Thanks much.

Edit: the TV ad you reference isn't anywhere on the web, is it?
