Hope this has not been posted before but I have solved a mystery.

When launching either of the programs within Vegas I sometimes get the message that the timeline cursor must be over effect for initial launch. This message is received even though it appears the cursor is in the correct location. Sometimes it happened and sometimes it didn;t. Quite annoying.

Solution - the video preview monitor must be turned on. Simple.
