Boris FX Optical Flow & Render Formats

I've slowed down some footage with Boris FX Optical Flow. The original footage is mp4 29.97 fps (which I realise is probably less than ideal - but it's all I've got to work with).

If I render using the MainConcept AVC/AAC, Internet 480p widescreen render template I get pretty spectacular results. At 50% you would be hard pressed to tell that the original frame rate was only 29.97. Even at 25% speed the quality is very good with only minimum distortion and artifacts visible.

However if I render with a template suitable for Bluray the results are not so good. If I play back the slowed down section with Optical Flow applied in Vegas there appears to be no distortion or artifacts, but when I render using a Bluray compatible template I get massive distortion and artifacts along moving edges.

I've tried a wide variety of settings for Optical Flow. Turning down "Optical Flow Mix" removes a lot of the distortion, but the slow motion is relatively choppy compared with the almost perfect results I get with the mp4 template.

I've tried a wide variety of templates suitable for Bluray including MainConcept, Sony AVC, and MainConcept MPEG-2, but all produce horrible results.

Just wondering if anyone knows what's going on here, or how I might get the good results I get with the mp4 template using a Bluray compatible template.

TIA
