to be honest, i think if your looking for this kind of effects range, particle illusion would be your better option. The learning curve is quite easy, and everything u do in PI can be composited in vegas. Also PI gives u quite afew more options.

I mean if its fire and water etc you want, PI is the bees knees, but for an all round fx app boris woul dbe the way to go.

persoanlly i find boris to be a little cumbersome and when working with it alongside vegas, it really does feel as if its stinted when it comes to speed in workflow.
PI on the other hand is probably as fast as vegas once u get your head around it.

go to wondertouch.com and grab a demo and see how it works. if it works for u (im sure it will considering your after particle type effects) then working side by side with vegas would be the best way to go IMO

I been using it with vegas since PI2 and V4 and have never looked back

Tried the demo but uninstalled it. Graphics card requirements are a little too narrow. Boris is late in the game for the effects Blue can do. Zaxwerks ProAnimator, Particle Illusion and a lot of other programs already do what Blue does...and a little better.
Besides, $2000 for this software is nuts! Even $1000 for us Red owners is too steep for me.
