No need to do a re-install, in the V4 directory there will be two files named BorisRED3 VVTR.dll and BorisRED3 VVFL.dll. Copy them to the Vegas 5.0 Video Plug-Ins directory and there should appear again.

Which other transitions are missing?

Thanks for the valuable help PAW. I followed the procedure described here and Boris RED works (despite the fact I haven't tested yet - haven't rendered any effect yet).

If other Boris users are experiencing same problem, they should do the following
-open windows explorer
-program files
-Sonic Foundry folder
-Vegas 4.0 (there's only a subfolder there named Video Plug-Ins)
-you'll see both dll files: BorisRED3 VVFL.dll and BorisRED3 VVTR.dll
-mouse left click to select both, right click to copy them
-go to SONY folder, and there, go to Vegas 5.0
-look for the Video Plug-Ins subfolder
-paste both files, close the three and then windows explorer.
-open vegas and click on Video FX at the bottom of the sceen, on the left
You'll see Boris there!

Thanks to all who have helped.

Hello.
I have the same problem with Vegas 5 not being able to detect Boris Red (latest version), but my situation is a bit harder as I never installed any other version of Vegas than the 5 one, so I just don't have where to copy those dlls from. Is it ok if some of you will just zip them for me and let me download them? Will that work?
Thank you a lot in advance.

I doubt that would work. I'd just try to uninstall and reinstall. When you do it will ask you if you want to install Boris plug ins in whatever other programs it detects. I get Vegas and After Effects recognized.
It should work then.

Well, that is the very problem. When i was installing Boris it asked whether do i want to install it as a plugin for Vegas. I checked a small window for Vegas but after installation Boris doesn't appear in Vegas's transitions or effects.
What can i do now? You think reinstall Boris would work?

I'm haveing the same problem as az0...
I had to format my hd and installed Vegas 5. I then installed RED and checked for it to install for Vegas 5. Going into the V5's effects or transitions, I can't find Boris.
So far, I haven't had the time to track down what's going wrong, but there is hope. If I may be so bold as to suggest going onto the COW, I know that Boris tech support is frequently viewed there. I hope to do that later this week when things slow down a bit.
If anyone has the answer or goes there first, please post your findings here (I almost never get to the COW anymore). If I get the answer first, I'll forward that to this forum as well.

If I remember correctly, Boris doesn't provide an accurate path as to where Vegas resides and you have to browse to the proper location of the plugin folder when you install it.

Can you check and see if the Boris RED3.dll is in the C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas 5.0 directory and the C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas 5.0\Video Plug-Ins has the files Boris RED VVTR.dll and VVFL.dll files in.

If they are all should work.

If not run the installation package again and use the repaire option which should reinstall any missing files.

If that does not work remove the program and reinstall again.

You may have to setup your preferences again with the last option but that should only take a few minutes.

I install Boris 3 and can see it in the transitions in Vegas 5b but when I use Boris for the transition it crashes Vegas. When I create an effect in Boris and place it on the vegas timeline it works OK, go figure.

You lost me. Do you mean you Vegas crashes when you try to use Boris transitions inside a Vegas timeline (using Boris as a plug in), but things work fine when you export from Vegas into Boris (or just open the clips up there in Boris) and render out in Boris (using Boris as stand alone engine)? I have never used the transitions in Boris, pretty happy with what Vegas can do, but I do use Boris filters, text, and effects like corner pin tracking. Here's what I've found:
1- It's quicker (at least with text effects like credit rolls) to render uncompressed in vegas and render as an animated quicktime in Boris than it is to use frameserver or Boris as a filter inside Vegas.
2- If you're rendering anything in boris over 50 secs, rendering uncompressed will probably cause an error. Did research on this and had it confirmed in the Boris creative cow forum. Render as animated quicktime. It plays back better and looks slightly better to my eyes.
3-Don't try to do a credit roll using Boris as a filter (plug in) in Vegas. A weird blurry text results.
This stuff is again all based on text stuff and 12 hours of my life that I will never have back. I'd be interested to see if the rest of Boris filters will work in this way and be faster to implement using Boris as a stand alone.
My general opinion is that Boris and Vegas are not as well integrated as they need to be at this time. There's a lot of possibilities, but right now it's not there yet. Needs to be more reliable and faster.
Of course there's nothing wrong with a stand alone compositor. A good friend of mine who's an extremely accomplished editor uses Combustion for all his needs in just this way.
