According to the publicly released Boris Newsletter today, Boris Red 3GL will ship on 17 September 2003. I got two copies of the newsletter, they must think I've a lot of spare cash.
They also dropped the price to 799.00 as a special. It will be interesting to see how it performs in Vegas. I like Boris products but they are always so slow. Supposedly they really increased the speed. Vegas plus could be a real powerhouse combo.

Is that US dollars????? For the plug-in???
So wait - The Adobe Video collection that includes Adobe After Effects 6.0 Standard edition, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, and Adobe Encore DVD is 799.00 on "special" or SRP 999.00 normally and people whine that 799.00/999.00 is way too expensive. So lets see - if you purchased all of the comparable, "cheaper", Sony stuff:
Vegas + DVD - Suggest Retal price (SRP) - 999.95
Sound Forge 6 - SRP - 499.95
Sony has nothing like After Effects available.
So many want Boris Red for VV and if that is really going to cost 799.00
All of this it is a SRP of 2298.90
...and *that* isn't considered expensive???? Sometimes I just don't get people here.
Boris Red is comparable to After Effects Professional which is 999.00. While 799.00 is alot of money to me I do plan on getting either After Effects of Red for special effects composite work. I make my living editing videos so it's a justifiable expense and these software programs really do go far beyond editors like Vegas etc. Learing specialized programs like these will only increase your money making capability.

Thank you for seeing the 'irony' behind my comments and agreeing with my underlying point.

Filmy...I think you are missing one unspoken underlying point.
$799 is too expensive for Adobe product.
$2000 (plus) isn't for SoFo (Sony) products.
I'd gladly spend $800 for Boris provided it does what I have seen demoed. I wouldn't spend a dime on Adobe products (anymore) even if it made my comptuer sing and dance and fly like a bird.

I'm not missing the point. For about the same price Adobe offers a better package at the moment and people whine about how "expenisive" Premiere is and how "cheap" VV is - so when the prices are now very close the whining should stop. Premiere (Pro or 6.5), frankly, has more pro features than VV does at the moment. If you need those features than VV, at any price, is not going to work.
These same posters like to say "Oh yeah I could spend xxx amount of dollars on an Adobe product but than I would have to spend xxx amount more on a plug-in to get something than VV already has for less." So now - we have the exact same thing but instead of replacing "Adobe" with "Sony/SoFo" there isn't yet too much whinning about "having" to spend another grand almost on a plug-in to give you features that VV does not have. See? Clear as a bell.
I use VV and I use Premiere and After Effects. I also use Sound Forge. I am looking forward to Sound Forge 7 with native 24p support. I use After Effects for things that Premiere can't do and that VV can't do. I don't try and do audio edits in VV, AE or Premiere - I do detailed audio work with Sound Forge. I can not provide any workable EDL with VV so I use Premiere when I need that. Should I need full deck control via hardware support - I have Premiere because VV does not do that either. I use VV for 24p conversion now because it works great. I don't have real deep issue with any of these things - I mean as far as "hating" any of them or dropping any of them.
Just looked on Adobe's site where they put together some testimonial from customers crowing above how great and easy to use the new Adobe products. OK, expected.
What wasn't expected was the credit for the mini-vid you view goes to and outfit called Alchemedia. So lets see, Adobe is pushing their new line of "professional" graphic tools, especially Premiere and do they use it themselves? Nope, they farm it out and have it done by Alchemdia using other software.
