I feel the same way, Boris all the way. After the disaster which is Vegas 12 I won't give anymore money to Sony or Sony related software. All the development time wasted making Hitfilm work with Vegas has taken away resources in making Vegas 12 stable & gpu rendering work. Even DVDA has been dead in the water. What am I paying for... an annoying ding when a render completes with anomalies & errors?
I've updated plugs to be gpu ready only to have Vegas 12 take it away. I'm more than disappointed & have little trust in Sony all together. Sony is costing me money & time with Vegas 12.
We don't need new software, we need software that is powerful, intuitive, dependable & fast.
I doubt you can compare them because them are different kind of systems. BCC is a fx collection. HitFilm is a compositing system. Forget about the simple fx in HitFilm and focus onto the compositing elements.
Imho, HitFilm offers a superiour particle generator, particle and fx working in 3D space, a 3D tracker (Mocha), generally 3D compositing including import of several 3D models and it offers a superiour chroma keyer.
I have been using Boris Red for years and I really love it. It is my Swiss Army knife of video tools. Like Hitfilm, Red is a compositing system. But, I must agree with Marco that Hitfilm's 3D particle system and the Mocha planar tracking tool is far superior. Also, Red does not import 3D models as does Hitfilm. As such, I have recently decided that Hitfilm would make an excellent addition to Red. However, given the choice of getting just one or the other, my vote is for definitely for Red.
My main motivation for looking at Hitfilm is the particle generator. I have been using Particle Illusion 3 for a long time, but it is limited by the fact that it works only in 2D. As such, you have to create all sorts of masks when you want the particles to "go behind" an object. I was hoping that Red Giant might integrate Trapcode Particular with Vegas, but no such luck. Finally, Hitfilm offers a solution to my problem. Because my compositing tool of choice is Boris Red, Hitfilm will serve primarily as my 3D particle engine (and planar tracker).
