Bought new video card

Well I treated myself to a new video card today. ( GeForce 7800 GS 256 meg AGP )

Haven't installed yet but I'm curious, what advantages are there in Vegas 7 in regards to hardware acceleration, if any ? Also curious about After Effects as well. I know the video card has very little to do with the presentation of 2D media and graphics, but I keep hearing about support for hardware acceleration with the newer video cards like I bought.....

Care to share some insight and advantages I'm now able to partake in ?

Stan

( ...........watch for the "Brooke" video this weekend. )

Vegas? Nothing. AE? Not sure. Doom 3? Depending on your hardware, it'll look like hell in non-slideshow mode! ;)

what was your old card?

You might plan on adding a couple more case fans with that baby cooking inside. Maybe another power supply too.

Regarding AE there is a tutorial on the cow called After Effects 7: Open GL or Open GL Demystified. Also on the adobe website there is a grid that shows the cards that are supported and what features the various cards can handle. You should be great with that card since it is a Nvidia based card. It will help when you are setting up mulitple 3d layers and want faster previews. Not just for games anymore.

If you ever use VirtualDub (for example, to run the deshaker plugin), it offers GPU acceleration using DirectX and D3D.

Also, the release notes for Vegas 7 say that if you want full screen video preview on a second monitor, you must have a 3d hardware accelerated video card (I'm not sure why or what it's doing).

hardwre accelerated cards use ogl or d3d. The preview on the 2nd montior is most like a texture rendered on two triangles since it's faster then not doing it that way. Hence the 3d acceleation (FYI, EVERY card out now a days has some type of accel. Some jsut have newer/better setups then others).

Magic Bullet now uses Nvidia OGL acceleration. That would go faster!
