Brightness& contrast

I am a new user to Vegas 4.
I have a problem with my brightness & contrast. FX video window. I can not
get it to lighten up the video, (clip)
I have tried the split screen button, no luck. Is there a lock that I have turned on?
Any suggestions.

First two guesses:

>You have unchecked the effect at the top of the FX window, thereby bypassing it.

>You have the sync cursor off and are changing the settings, but since the cursor in the timeline is in a different spot, you are actually looking at an unaffected part of the media.

BTW, check out the color curves FX for doing this adjustment.
