Bryce & Vegas, a tip

Sorry if this is obvious to everyone else.

Once you workout how to turn off all the background stuff in Bryce you're still left with a blue background that doesn't CK too well in Vegas.
Fear not, Bryce can render a B&W mask that works a treat in Vegas.

I'm rendering out of Bryce at HD as BMP sequence, render B&W Object Mask the same, composite in Vegas (use Multiply) and then render to uncompressed with alpha. Works a treat. Use Vegas to then handle traditional 2D compositing.

Many 3D text effects are easily done using Bryce but you need to create the text itself elsewhere, hardly a great challenge. I wouldn't say Bryce is 100% glitch free, I've had it do some funky things but sure not complaining for the money.

One thing I've learnt real fast. Mastering the mechanics of 3D isn't that hard, mastering the art of 3D is a much steeper curve. I think Bryce is a good app to cut your teeth on before you commit half a lifetime to mastering 3D.

Bob.

Thanks Bob, I was thinking of letting my teenager use Bryce to learn character design for a school project. I'll be able to merge backgrounds in vegas quickly with your tip.

I've been using Bryce since version 2 and while it's really set up for print rather than broadcast, it's still my favourite app for doing titles, and simple 3D work. As Bob says, you can't go wrong for the price.

You may take a look at Vue Esprit 5.
They build up a good animation software with a very good 3d text editor.
Wish Sony may bundle this software with Vegas.

Check the 3d text editor here.
