Bug?? Audio track removed when changing background image

I just encountered what looks like a basic bug with DVD-A, which I haven’t seen mentioned.

I had my DVD pretty much ready to go, then decided to re-apply a theme to all my scene selection menus. When I did this, I lost all the audio tracks which I had added to these menus! I had to add them all back in.

I later discovered that simply changing the background image on a menu also removes any audio track added there.

Is this a known bug in DVD-A 2.0?

When you apply a theme, the background video and audio from the theme are applied.

Of course, most themes don't have audio; and in that case, the menu audio shouldn't change. That part is a bug.

We haven't been able to reproduce your second comment though - changing the background image should not remove the audio. How are you doing this? (drag & drop, through properties page, etc.)

For now, it might be easier just to use "Reapply Theme Layout" from the Edit menu.

Ahh.. well maybe it isn’t a bug, but it isn’t very user friendly…

I right-clicked in the workspace, and selected “Set background media”. I then pointed to the file (a still image file in my case), and the background was replaced, but the audio lost.

I just tried it again, and I see there is a drop-down menu at the bottom that defaults to “video and audio streams”. If I select this to video only, it leaves the audio alone.

This seems similar to the issue with the themes – it would be better, if there were no audio associated with the background chosen, to leave the audio already added there, rather than replace it with null audio.

If I double click on a background in the background tab (or explorer), that also works, it leaves the audio alone.

So now I know how to avoid this problem – thanks!

Then someone would complain that the old audio does not relate / sync to the new background. "It's always something."

Frankly, I think that it stands to reason that if you apply a theme, ALL of the attributes of that theme will be applied to your project. The audio is part of that theme, even if there is no audio. ;-)

I can see this point of view. But as none of the provided Themes have any audio, it isn't obvious to the novice user that applying one of these will remove all the audio I have added.

So I accept this is not a bug, but it could be more friendly or made more clear. The manual mentions that a theme can contain background audio, but doesn't warn that if you apply a theme you will lose any audio you have added.
