Bug in Media Bins?

I believe there's a bug in the media bins in VMSP 8C which I hope has been fixed in version D. I have a 2TB Raid 1 external drive with about 500 archival clips in Folders, sub and sub sub folders.

The WIN XP computer is only used for post work and not on line, so with all programs closed I deleted SPYBOT. (IMO the latest version is way too invasive and I don't need it anyway.)

Well as a parting shot it took with it about 200 clips from the media bins, but they're all still there on the 2TB drive.

So into a New Bin called 'all video clips' I'm reloading those then dragging them to their original bins. After having re-done about 60 I had to stop and get on finishing a program and had to look for suitable clips in the 'all video files' folder.

Actually it's not so bad, I've found if I've named them correctly, and they're in alphabetical order in the 'all video clips' bin they're easy to find as they're grouped together.

So be careful naming your clips, if you get it right, after some months you should be able to easily recall what the clip is about, by its name.
Here's an example: we fly to airshows, so there's a bin named for each one, then sub bins for... Connie AVA (the airshow code) taxiing, takeoffs, landings, flypasts, visitors, interviews etc.

BTW I never update a program eg: 8C to 8D, in the middle of a project, and it's good to let it settle down for a few weeks before doing so.

Cheers.

So you were saying there's a bug...which part of the above describes the bug?

Is it possible to rename the clips after you put them in the media bin? If the clips are on an external drive (mine are) and you rename them, you're only renaming the clip name and not the actual source file. So how can you get them all in one project of "all video clips" if many have the same names?

Read my other posts about sorting media bins to learn more about my clips. You'll see I have many DVDs and each one has a VOB 1 file on it. If I put all clips in one folder the VOB1s all show up first, then VOB2, and they are not in chronological order.

I started a brand new project and made brande new media bins and they are all in order. I shut the program and tried to reload it and it wouldn't find my source media, even though the external hard drive was connected. It may have gone into standby mode so I fixed that. Tried two or three times and it didn't show the source files...shut everything down and on about the fourth try the whole project was there. But the "project" as only the media bins appropriately named/organized and all the clips in those bins.

Just thought I'd throw this out as to what happened wtih my "all video clips" and yes, I used the same name for my project as you did. I have about 97 DVDs and I'd say each one has at least 2 clips on it - some have 3, 4 or 5, so it's a significant amount of clips to be working with.

What I"m doing is setting this up so that when I finish my current project, I can begin the next one - a graduation video for one of my kids - and will have my baseline project in place. Of course this is assuming my external hard drive doesn't crash between now and when I get the project far enough to render. This child has a few more years of school so once I get it up to a certain point, I'll render it and then add to it in the years to come. That way I have the rendered file, which I can save on any drive or disc and reload into Vegas when the time comes.

Thanks for any other input you may have on this.
