Bug in V4 Bin??

This has to be a bug because the behaviour is way to strange to be a feature.

I go to the media pool tab and right click on "Media Bins" then create a new bin, I name it Photos.

I then click on "Import Media" then browse to a folder that has 239 PSD files. I marquee select them all and import them.

Now, here is where the weirdness starts. Only 121 of them are showing up in the list. The files have alphabitical names and A-S are showing up, but nothing after that. The list stops in the middle of the "S" names.

Now, I click "Import Media" and select the very last name on the list that starts with the letter "Z" and guess, what, I now have 122 names in the list, but the last one in there isn't the Z name, but the very next "S" name in the sequence.

And, it gets weirder. When I click on a file, any file, and then hit the X to remove it from the pool, it stays there, however, the total number of files in the list will increase by 1 and show the very next "S" file in the sequence.

It is acting like the imported list is somehow there, but not displaying correctly in the Media Bin.

To prove my theory, I hit the X another 100 times until every single file that I originally requested to import now appears in the list.

There is no way that this is a feature. It has to be a bug somewhere. Something is very much screwy.

If I close V4 and reopen it, the file list goes back to 120 and hitting the X brings them back one at a time.

I rebooted Windows, and the results are the same.

I am running WinXPPro with SP1

kirk:

I'm not seeing the behavior described. Tried it with 165 +/- files (jpg's, not psd's). Maybe it's the psd files? Same OS. Sorry I can't help more.

I started to use the bins the other day for the first time.

I was auto-previewing a bunch of clips (over 100) one at a time, and then renaming them in the bin based on the content.

I started noticing that, as I moved down the list, I'd be watching a clip I had already viewed and renamed 5 or 6 clips ago, but it had the orginal filename of a clip I hadn't viewed yet.

After I hit refresh I realized that my files were a mess.

Pissed me off and I closed Vegas

OK, I have done some more experimenting.

V4 will only allow me to import a maximum of 127 PSD files into the "Media Bin" no matter how many I select.

Experiment #1
I created a directory called c:\mytest and copied one single PSD file to it.
Then using thumbs plus, I replicated that same file with different names until I had 256 files. When I try to import into the Media Bin, only 127 files show up in
the list. When I start highlighting files and hitting the delete key, no
files are deleted, however more files begin to show up at the bottom of the
list. If I continue to hit the delete key, eventually all 256 files show
up.

Experiment #2
Using Thumbs Plus, I converted all 256 files to JPG. When I try to import
into the Media Bin, only 127 files show up in the list. When I start
highlighting files and hitting the delete key, no files are deleted, however
more files begin to show up at the bottom of the list. If I continue to hit
the delete key, eventually all 256 files show up.

Experiment #3
Using thumbsplus, I converted them all PSD files to PNG. When I try to import
256 PNG files, they ALL import into the Media Bin correctly as expected.

Experiment #4
I try to add an additional 256 PSD files to the bin, the total file count
goes up to 383. 383-256=127 There is that 127 number yet again. And yet again, trying to delete files from the bin list makes new ones show up at the bottom.

I am going to install V4 on my home computer to see if I get the same
results.

Thank you for this bug report. Our development team has fixed this for the forthcoming 4.0b update. It was specific to how Windows handles .PSD files.
