BUG? Selective-Paste broken w/Hotkey in V23

RedRob-CandlelightProdctns wrote on 2/12/2026, 8:19 AM

I use hotkeys to selectively-paste events on timeline events.

Trying to do this in V23 and it crashes every time :( Anyone else experiencing this?

  1. Map a hotkey to "Edit.SelectivelyPasteAttribute"
  2. On event A, add Brightness/Contrast -- right-click, COPY
  3. On event B, right-click Selectively Paste Event Attributes, check "Video event effects", click OK (Vegas remembers which of these is checked for next time)
  4. On event C, use Keyboard hotkey to run "Selectively Paste Attribute" (I press Ctrl-Alt-Shift-V)

Instead of just executing the paste (prior behavior), it asks to select which attributes to paste, but without any options.

Clicking cancel, crashes Vegas.

Clicking OK, does nothing.

NOTE: I've tested using a different hotkey. I've tested with just a single brightness/contrast filter. Same behavior.

NOTE2: Selective Paste works fine if using the menus, only fails this way when using keyboard hotkey

@RedRob-CandlelightProdctns I see there is a difference between  "Edit.SelectivelyPasteAttribute" in the hotkeys for the entry  "Edit.SelectivelyPasteAttribute" in trackview and global with  "Edit.SelectivelyPasteEventAttributes" in global (which is not in trackview).
Notice the difference: the extra word "event" and the extra "s" in "Edit.SelectivelyPasteEventAttributes" .
Ctrl-Alt-Shift-V seems to be linked to "Edit.SelectivelyPasteEventAttributes", not to "Edit.SelectivelyPasteAttribute".
Is "Edit.SelectivelyPasteAttribute" a legacy left over they forgot to delete in VP23, or is it there for backward compatebility? Who knows...

I use hotkeys to selectively-paste events on timeline events.

On event C, use Keyboard hotkey to run "Selectively Paste Attribute" (I press Ctrl-Alt-Shift-V)

Does that shortkey work at all, I don't get the shortkey working in VP22 and VP23. I seldom use Selectively Paste Attributes, I prefer to use Track FX and put the events that need that fx on that track.

Great catch!

Mapping to "SelectivelyPasteEventAttributes" is working as it used to.

I don't know what this other one is or why it's there, but I setup a different mapping to this one and am happy to say things are good there.

I think you might be right -- the bug might be keeping the old one out there?

@bitman sorted it out -- looks like there might be a legacy command that is very similarly named which is crashing (and which I now realize was the wrong one to use)

I like your idea of having different tracks for specific effects like that -- makes it easy to see where they're applied for sure. Doesn't work so well for our workflow since I get the project after the MC edit/track is tweaked, and moving individual events to a different track loses the fades/overlaps. Doable? sure... more work? yip
