BUG -- wmv 320x240@ >512 hard locks XP on playback

It doesn't matter how I set the render properties -- if I encode to wmv at 1MB/sec or above at 320x240 resolution, the result on playback with WMP or anything else is a hard lock of XP requiring pushing the machine reset button, or a screen death or spontaneous reboot -- every single time.

If I set the render to 320x240 @ 512KB/sec -- OR -- 640x480 at ANY bitrate (1 or 3 MB/sec), there is absolutely no problem on playback -- smooth as silk.

Win XP Pro SP2, Nvidia 7600 GT latest WHQL drivers, Vegas Pro 8.0b, 1 MB Ram, WMV9 encoding, and no other identifiable issues. I don't recall this as having been an issue on earlier versions.

I am trying to render mpeg-2 and dv-avi files to 320x240 wmv @ 1-3MB/sec per the majority of recommendations for best quality Youtube uploads, both on this forum and on Youtube.

I don't think any render in Vegas should hard lock my machine on playback absent any other instances, so I am asking if anyone can duplicate the behavior or offer a salient explanation.

Many thanks in advance.

No problems doing that on machine.

Since you're hard crashing though, my suggestion is to render using the iPod template under the MainConcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4) "Save as type".
I know Spot has recommended this format for YouTube renders.

If I select "Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile" in the Format dropdown it works, and with very nice quality video. With "Windows Media Video 9" it hard locks the computer on playback in WMP 9, every time. I'm glad there is an easy fix, but I wonder why this is happening?

Is this a bug?
Can someone from Sony tell me what the codec differences are and when I should use the "Advanced Profile" to avoid crashing? I noticed my wmfplug3.dll was updated In January, 2008 when I updated to 8.0b.
