Well from all the post I've here and in the video side I'm holding off to upgrade. I was wondering how long the special upgrade price will last, hopefully till version b?
heed johnmeyer's observation on DVDA2's overall performance. For the price point your only real alteranatives are ReelDVD, Adobe Encore and (though I haven't used it) Ulead DVD Factory 2. ReelDVD and Encore require you to use ADobe Photoshop and though Encore is no where near as clunky as ReelDVD, it is still not as friendly as Sony's offering. I encourage you to pick up DVDA 2 and get familiar with it. You will be able to generate revenue and when the upgrade comes out, download it to eradicate the minor bugs.
Simple things like adding motion background clips with music to menu pages are accomplished with a couple of clicks in DVD-A2 - not the case with Reel DVD! End actions are simple with the drop down destination boxes (very similar to using IF/THEN and ELSE logic in CBT applications such as ToolBook) and sure a lot better than dragging arrows around the storyboard!
In the good old days we all dumped our stuff to VHS for distribution but the advent of DVD has raised end user expectations. DVD-A1 was very stable but no more sophisticted than MyDVD or DVDit, other than the WS feature. THe new manifestation is great, it will do pretty well anything you need for your clients and if you need the power of ReelDVD, then buy that as well and charge accordingly. Myself, I would rather pay someone to do the Reel DVD authoring because life is short and I'd rather spend time in the sunshine with my family than in the dark, dank basement for interminable hours.
Bottom line: it is a good program and worth buying. <edit> I have not experienced any Bug troubles BTW.
*shrug* I don't think there are any bugs that make it impossible, or really even particular difficult, to work with. (Personally, I haven't experienced any bugs since I upgraded day one. But I'm not doing anything as complicated as a lot of people here. Yet.) And it's not as though, if you upgrade now, they're going to charge you more to update to 2.0b. Your choice, though.
If there's no patch by May 30, though, I'd recommend you put your order in. ;)
