Bummer - MPEG2 won't register . . .

Caruso wrote on 2/8/2002, 6:33 PM
I didn't even realize it wasn't already registered (I remember doing that when I first installed the VV30 upgrade). I have since reformatted my system and re-installed VV30 several times, re-registered VV30, but don't recall re-registering the plugin.

Anyhow, it won't register, so I've emailed customer service per the instructions on this board (and on SF's tape recorded phone message).

Hope they can get to it this weekend. I was looking forward to trying my hand at making some VCD's with that plugin. Have not really used it before. Woooohoooo, are you out there, oh SF person who handles this task?

I hope so.

Frustrated for the moment, but love VV30.

In case it's the same cause - my first two attempts at registering failed, then I remembered I'd clicked "No" as Vegas opened and my firewall software asked me if I wanted Vegas to access the internet.

When I reopened and clicked "Yes" I was registered within seconds, and experienced for the first time dropping a 352x288 MPEG1 clip on the time line overlapping a 720x576 DV avi, and watching the dissolve preview immediately.

This is some software!

No such gentle request was presented during start up of VV30 on my system. I'll have to wait for SF. What puzzles me is that I haven't really used the MPEG plugins. It's been at least a month and a half since I last installed vv30 on the XP side of my machine.

My initial installation of VV30 went very smoothly. Then, some gremlins crept in (not sure that they weren't caused by other software my kids installed over the holidays), and I wound up re-installing XP and starting from scratch.

Now, while Vegas is producing some really nice videos for me, there remain some bugs in print to tape from the timeline, so, I've installed a second instance of the program on the Win98 side of my machine, but that installation is not reliable in final output to tape (subject to random glitches), so I don't use it, and I've never registered its MPEG plugins.

I'm certain SF will get around to unlocking my plugins, it's just disappointing going into the weekend (when I have time to play around with this stuff), not having known that they weren't functioning, and, now, there's no way to contact SF by phone, and I doubt they'll pick-up my email before Monday.

It's not the end of the world, just disappointing.

Thanks for the reply.

You might be dissapointed in the quality of the MPEG1 encoding. There are a couple nagging issues with it.

If you DVD player works with SVCD, I'd recommend the MPEG2 encoder as it does a better job.

Check out a couple post here:

Oops, I see you posted there. Well check out my post on VCD's

Well, Bigdav160, my evaluation of MPEG2 will have to wait until SF provides an unlock key . . . so far, I'm uacwoap (that's up a creek . . . .).

Thanks for the reply.

I've had the same problem, twice. I had trouble registering my vv2, now having the same problem with vv3.0. Did you get reigistered? What was the problem? I get an "invalid UserID" error. I have a "real job" and can't get to a phone during the not-so-user-friendly customer service hours....guess I'll have to wait for the email response... how long did it take for your response?

just a heads up... when i sent mail to customer support about a registration issue a while back, they never wrote back. hopefully this issue has been addressed by now, but you might want to get them on the phone instead :D

I had this problem and it turns out to be a listing in the registry for windows. SF sent me the line to go to in the registry and to delete the line. Then it registered. I am not at that computer now. But if I get a chance I will cut and paste it back to here. I would have assumed SF would have answered this here by now.

I emailed SF again this evening. No response from them, yet. 'Tis annoying. I understand the need for security, but, while my prior attention has been focused on other VV30 components, I am now quite anxious to experiement with MPEG2.

Hope SF get's around to fixing my problem.

NOW I remember, this link was sent to me by SF. It is on their board and gives directions to correct INVALID USER ID. It is under their support page on customer FAQ and is under COMMON REGISTRATION QUESTIONS. Hope it is the answer that works for you. Let us know.

Waited forever and a day and still haven't got through on the phone or a response to email. Good thing I'm not looking for water! Thanks for the URL Gary!

Gary:
The URL you posted takes me to a screen with several messages. The regedit advice appears to apply to someone who encounters an 'invalid serial number' message when trying to register the product.

My problem is queried/responded to a few messages down 'too many registrations'. If I follow the regedit advice, will it solve my problem or shall I end up with a totally unregistered product, still sitting in my present 'boat' waiting for SF to respond?

Right now, at least, VV30 is fully registered. Only MC MPEG is giving me a problem.

Thanks for your help.

'Tis only fair to pass along the news that I received an email notification from SF today (I won't name the gentleman here) that I should try online registration again. The message included the promise that I would not receive the "too many registrations" message again.

I just tried to register my MPEG plugins. Registration was successful.

I would have preferred faster response from SF, but I've experienced much slower response from other firms, and, at least SF has responded (I've experienced no response from other software firms as well).

Thanks SF.

I'd like to browse the other messages, but, can't right now, I'm off to render some MPEG's.

Later.
