Bundled plug-ins locked to Vegas, or can they be used in Premiere Pro?

In the digital audio workstation world it's common for makers to bundle audio plug-ins with their DAWs. Sometimes those plug-ins are in a proprietary format or have otherwise been locked such that they can't be used with other DAWs. Other times the plug-ins can be used freely with DAWs that support the plug-ins' format (usually VST).

I don't really need another video editing program — got Premiere Pro and Camtasia already. But I've had various incarnations of Vegas ever since the late 1990s, liked it for the most part, and wouldn't mind having it around.

But to me, the bigger draw isn't Vegas itself, it's the bundled plug-ins from Boris, proDAD, and Ignite. If they're not locked to Vegas, I could justify the upgrade to Vegas 16 Suite on that basis. If they are locked to Vegas… well, $350 is a lot to pay for a secondary editor.

Best regards,
Bethany Ferrell

They are probably locked. At any rate, they are OFX plugins, so the bigger question is does PP support OFX plugins now?

It depends on the plug-in. Boris is not only locked to Vegas Pro, but to the version of Vegas you activate it in. Ignite will cross over to any app that accepts OFX, but for example, in Resolve, they won't even run. I'm not sure about proDad but my guess is it is the same as Boris.

Resolve is very picky which plug-in it will run. It ignores every single one of my OFX plug-ins, for example. It knows they exist because it lists them in its own internal list, but they do not appear in the user interface. And I have no idea why, because I sure do not lock them.

So I would not blame whoever wrote Ignite for not appearing in Resolve. It most likely is Blackmagic Design that refuses to run it for reasons they are not telling.
