burn error

I haven't burned a DVD for a while and not since I've upgraded my computer. I don't think I've changed any settings in Vegas, so that would be the same. When burning I get the error message-"The drive couldn't determine the correct power for writing the disc. To solve this you need to use a different writing speed or a different brand of media." The details say "A power calibration area error has occurred." I'm using the same dvd's I've always used and I chose the lowest writing speed (2.0) that it lets me. I've always used that speed. I don't know what has changed or what to look at to fix it. Also, what do you recommend setting the dynamic RAM preview to (the default is 16MB)?

This sounds like something far more likely (unfortunately) to be hardware related than a problem caused by software.

Do you have any other software (like something that came with the DVD burner) that you could use to burn a disk in order to see if the problem is with your hardware? You could use the "simulate" function found in many software programs so you wouldn't even have to sacrifice a disk.

I emailed HP and their initial suggestion was the same as yours. I tried different brands of media, all of which I've used successfully for 1 and a half years before now. The next reply back HP gave me instructions to uninstall the burning programs, then download a program to do a registry cleaning, then I deleted a registry entry in the lower filters, then uninstall the drivers, then reinstall the drivers. Well, after all that I was able to successfully burn a dvd on the media I was originally using. HP tech support hasn't been that helpful before, but this time they were.
