burn on to dvd and be able to view

Just wondering do you have to use DVD architect to burn to a DVD and then be able to view? I used a normal DVD burner and it burned my videos ok on to a DVD. I could view them fine but when I gave the dvd to someone else, they could not play it on their PC or via their dvd player. Also what file extension should be used if you just want to render and then burn your movies onto a dvd and share the dvd around with others to view on their PC

Some DVD burner software (Nero, for instance) requires you to set the disc up as either a data or playable disc. If you don't set it up as a playable disc, it will not play in a DVD player. (If you use DVD Architect to do your burn, it will always produce a playable disc.)

What preferences are selected in the burner software?

As I say in my book, to save your DVD files to your computer for later burning to a disc, select the Prepare rather than Burn option under Make DVD.

Preparing will creating a folder called VIDEO_TS which contains your DVD files. Just burn this folder to a playable disc whenever you want to produce a DVD.
