Burning Blu-ray discs

I just purchased a Pioneer BDR-202 unit and am feeling my way along. In Vegas, I'm confused as to what to select to burn my first Blu-ray disc.

Render as Mpeg2? The template let's you select a whole list of items. Perhaps, Blu-ray 1441/x1080, 60i, 25Mbps video stream and there is a 8Mbps setting as well.

Any info with help.

I usually choose the default blu ray template (1440x1080, 60i) and then customized it slightly. Render as BEST with a bit rate of 28M cbr, which all works out fine for me. You can leave the default bit rate (25M) if you want but you should change the slider to BEST

Dear Blink’n:

Thank you for the help, I’ll try that soon, but now I have a more immediate problem. I didn’t want to start a new thread, because this is a related problem.

I shot a holiday parade with my F1 last night in our small town and decided to output HDV rather than DV from the camera (first time - because I want to try the Blu-ray burner later).

While taking it into Vegas Pro 8.0c the video in the capture window looked washed out and had a greenish cast. One glance at the clips in Vegas was reassuring, the colors looked great! So, I thought it just had something to do with the transcoding.

After editing, I rendered to Windows Media Video 9 (.wmv) which I always do when I’m dealing with DV. I put the video on my news site, one copy at 100Kbs for people with dial-up, and one copy at 256Kbps for DSL people.

When I looked at them over the internet, they were washed out and had a greenish color cast. Santa red outfit looks green, but not all reds were green.

Is in not possible to compress a HDV file to Media 9? Or, is there something else going on? I’d like to correct and post the video ASAP, so any help would be greatly appreciated. You can see the clip over the Internet at

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

This is embarrassing, but part of the problem is solved. I called some friends and asked them to look at the video on their computers and they said it was fine, not washed-out or color shifted. Now, I have also looked at it on a different computer and the video is true. So, something must be wrong with my Window Media Player in this computer, because even clips recorded earlier are turning out green.

I did notice I was running out of disc space and have been moving things to my other drive and deleting, but it’s still showing green. This is a much more manageable problem. I’m sure I’ll wake up at 3 a.m. and at least get a hint under which rock to look under next.
