Could be any number of things.

Your player might not be capable of playing DVD-R (or whatever type of disk you burned). If your player is an older model, this is likely what's wrong.

Your player might be one that is capable of playing DVD-R, etc. but is picky about the reflectivity (disk color) of the the disk you burned.

Unfortunately, making playable DVD's involves too many variables to easily pin down the cause of the problem you are having.

There's a lot of good information at www.vcdhelp.com/ including a player compatability list. The list is huge so you might have to search for your player. Hope it works out.

If you are burning to DVD-R use branded discs (I've used Apple,Maxell & TDK all of which worked fine). You get better results than cheap generic discs.

I am using Dazzle's DVD complete DVD authoring program. $99.00 http://www.dazzle.com
This is a very easy, user friendly, Rock Soild program. I have burned over 75 disk so far with zero problems. Also comes with a disk, jacket and jewel case label program built in. Check it out. They have a downloadable demo.
