Burning DVDs

I've been burning several DVDs created using Sony Vegas & DVD Architect. For the most part - considering my rookie skills - they turn out ok. I notice later when playing them on DVD players - and even on my computer where I've burned them - that they sometimes stop, sometimes just for a moment, sometimes for good. There is not one place where they do it every time, but it seems to be at various spots at different times (depending on the playback device).

Any ideas what I can do about this? I'm using Maxell DVD-R disks. Someone commented that putting labels on the disks might be causing the problem.

Thanks!

You could try burning your DVD's at a lower speed, such as 4x speed. Also, you could try burning DVD+R discs and use Nero to set the booktype to DVDROM. One other thing, you might want to check your bitrate levels and make sure that they are within the legal limit as that could cause a problem, but if you did not mess with them and used default, this should not be a problem.

Putting paper labels on is deadly. I suspect that might be part, if not all, of the problem.

Invest in an Epson R300 or 320 printer - selling for dirt cheap right now, which print on printable DVDs and CDs. For casual use, these printers are fine. If you are going to print a bunch commercially, they aren't that great. Printable DVDs are available for about the same price as non printables. I've used both Fuji and Maxell and have had no problems, except for my own silly mistakes when preparing the DVD. I just did a bunch for a friend's family history for a reunion, and they have all played back just fine on all players we tried them on.

I recommend the same thing for CDs, although they don't seem to be as problematic with paper labels.

My machine burns at 2x, so that shouldn't be a problem. So DVD+R is more dependable or higher quality than DVD-r?

Thanks!

DVD+R is only more dependable if it is burned with a book type set to DVDROM, which can be done in Nero (Search the forum for book type).
