Burning high definition onto DVD

I'm having difficulty burning edited 1920x1080 video produced on Vegas v10 from AVCHD files, onto DVD. I understand that, when using 'DVD Architect Studio' v5, I should select 'burn blu-ray disc' and this should accept a DVD disc. But the disc will not play on my Sony Blu-Ray player or my computer Blu-Ray player. On the latter I get audio only which breaks ups and stops and no video. I have tried reducing burn speed but still no success. If I select the 'burn DVD' option I get only a standard resolution disc as expected (although this plays OK on a standard DVD player).
Any suggestions?

Break-up and starts and stops are usually a sign of a poor quality disc burn. It's not a software issue.

Though it could also indicate that your player isn't fully compatible with home-burned media.

First, make sure you're using a quality media disc, like Verbatim or Maxell. (NEVER Memorex!) Then make sure you're burning at a slower speed than the disc's maximum. (Often the slower your burn, the more likely your disc will work in your player.)

Check your video format setting under project properties (MPEG-2/AVC). When I would burn blu-ray on DVD/5 or 9 it would play on my blu-ray pc drive w/ AVC setting, however would stay black screen with audi when using the MPEG-2 setting. Just an idea, if you have not checked that format setting.

You're not rendering at too high a bitrate, are you? see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD

"The AVCHD specification limits data rate for DVD-based AVCHD camcorders to 18 Mbit/s"

Good Luck!
