Burning MPEG2 to SVCD

I have been able to get reasonable results working with video from my camera all the way through to rendering to an MPEG2 file. When I play this file from my hard drive, it looks great. When I burn the file onto a CD-R disk, and then play it from there on my computer, it flashes, pops, and generally disappoints. It does pretty much the same on the DVD player, but maybe even a bit worse.

I am concerned that I am not burning it to disk right. I am using the software that came with my cd burner. It actually had a special option to allow you to create a music or video disk, but that is disabled in the "light" version that came with the burner. So I am simply burning the MPEG2 file to the disk as a "data" file. This seems to work okay, and my DVD player can read it and play it, but the results are a far cry on what I am able to get directly off my hard drive.

So, my questions: Is there something wrong with my burning software? My CD burner? Do I need to get the upgrade to the burning software? Is there something in VF that will let me do the burning directly to the CD? Any other suggestions?

It should be the other way around with superior results when viewed on a TV from a set top DVD player. There is more to burning a video CD then simply making a data file. There are important overhead files. Have you visited vcdhelp.com?

Nero does a good job of burning CD's. So does Ulead's DVD Movie Factory which also supports VCD and SVCD's. They have a free 30 day fully functional trial. It is fully menu driven and does a good job, its only weakness being a limitation in template choices. The default setting for SVCD is 480x480. A set top DVD player will automatically expand it out to the correct aspect ratio. Some computer video players don't.

Thanks BillyBoy. It looks like I've got some more work to do, and more money to spend, but I am glad to hear that there is hope. I remember reading a number of posts about Ulead DMF, so now I guess I understand more what they were talking about.
