Brand and model of DVD burner?

Brand and type -- DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW -- of media?

The first thing to do is put it back in the DVD burner drive in your computer, open Windows Explorer, and look to see what files are on the disk. You should have nothing but two folders:

AUDIO_TS
VIDEO_TS

The first should be empty. The second should have a bunch of files ending in the extensions VOB, IFO, and BUP. The total size of these files should be quite large, although the actual size will depend on the length of the video you put on the DVD and the encoding rate.

If the disk does not have these files, then something went wrong.

One possible thing that would have caused this: If you (accidentally) selected "test burn" on the last menu in DVDA before the burn started, then DVDA will go through all the steps (and time) to burn the DVD, but no data will actually be written to it. If you follow the steps I gave above, it will very quickly tell you if that is the problem.

Thank you J Meyer, for replying....

However, this disc is not recognized - the light on the drive lights up then it seems to nearly lockup the system, then finally the computer says no disc in drive.

For what it's worth, I have exactly the same problem. I actually was able to burn DVD's last week, but now I can't.

Thanks ZAP,

but have you found a solution, yet?

I have to find time to find the solution. Just hoping that if more people report the problem someone will be inspired to find the problem. I won't be able to check this out myself for a few days.

Just upgraded my DVD writer firmware (HP420i) and am now able to burn discs again. Strange, since the burner worked when I first installed DVD3!
