Burning problems

As you can see from my username I am new to this movie making, and feel quite stupid. (In addition English is not my first language, so it is quite difficult to understand all these technical terms...)
I am using Vegas Movie Studio and DVD Architect Studio for the first time making a DVD from my holiday video. I have made a project with video files, music and pictures and sent it to Architect Studio. When i try to burn the project, it will only burn half of the project, and I don`t know what I am doing wrong??? Does anyone have any idea? There are no messages saying anything is wrong with the file, and there is enough space on the disc. The project is only 35 minutes long.

First, I'd recommend changing your username. Most people feel a bit stupid when they first start out with this (or anything new), but as they work with it they get better. And thus, "smarter." And when you feel smarter, you're going to wish you didn't have a username that makes people assume otherwise. ;-)

(Although, I'm curious, did you choose Stupid77 because Stupid1 through Stupid76 were taken?)

Okay, on to your question: When you say DVDA Studio only burns half of the project, does that mean it just stops and doesn't finish burning?

Does the burn dialog just close, or does the whole program freeze up or crash?

Or does it claim that the disc was burned successfully (or something to that effect), but not everything is there when you play the disc? Does the disc even play?

And if it does play, what part(s) of it do work?

(See, no technical terms. Yet.)

Lol, I will see if I am willing to change my user name in the future... (and 77 is the year I was born)
First of all, thank you for answering. DVDA claims to have burnt the project successfully, and I have no problems playing the disc. The picture and sound is perfect. However it freezes and stops after about 18 minutes. I have tried to burn it several times, and it freezes at the exact same plaze every time.

Welcome to the world of DVD burning. First what media did you use. Have you tried any other media. Most people seem to be recommending TaiyoYuden or Verbatim discs. How fast did you burn it. An old wives tale (that used to be true but may not be anymore) is to burn at slower speeds not the ultimate speed at which the disc is rated. Have you tried playing it on a different DVD player. If you have tried all this and still have the same problem.... Does the DVD preview successfully in DVDA?

First of all I will answer your questions:
The whole project shows in the preview. I have also tried to play it in different DVD players and tried to burn it at a different speed.
I am using a regular Sony DVD+R disc. The project consists of MPEG files from a Hard disc camera, MP3 music files and JPEG picture files.

I will try explain something that shows up when i try to burn the project. When I go to "make DVD", and before I do any changes it says the DVD will be recompressed. When i go to "optimize" the "project video format" is NTSC 720x480, and it says the project size is 2646,7MB (57% of 4700GB). If I change the "project video format" to PAL 720x576, the project does not need recompression, however the size changes to 1773,9 MB (38% of 4700GB). I guess this is where my problems lie, but I have no idea how to fix it.

Hopefully someone understood what I tried to explain here...

Is nobody able to help me?
I am getting really frustrated with DVDA because no matter what I do I get the same result. I have tried to follow the manuals step by step and also used some of the tips I have read in other topics on this forum, but no luck!

I have rendered the files from Vegas Movie Studio so that they are NTSC MPEG video and AC-3 audio. The project previews perfectly, and I have even been able to set chapter markers, and these showed up as menus when I burned the project as a single-movie DVD. However there is no video behind the last markers on the burned disc. Does anybody know why I am not able to burn more than just a percentage of the whole prepared project? There is no messages showing that anything is wrong.

Let me see if I can help you. First , when previewing in DVDA do all the chapter points play properly? Does the movie play completely from beginning to end on the DVD?
However there is no video behind the last markers on the burned disc.. When you select these last chapter points does the DVD return to menu?

When previewing all the chapter points play properly, both film and audio. When I try to play it in the DVD it does not play from beginning to end. It freezes after about 18 minutes of the project.
The markers/menus on the disc shows a still picture of the right starting point, but when you try to play it, nothing happens, and it does not return to the main menu.

I tried to burn my project with another burning program (Sonic) that is on my PC, and it says that the projct was burned successfully, however it froze at the exact same place. I am starting to wonder if something is wrong with the video file. But would it not freeze when I preview it, if something is wrong?

Are you playing the DVD on the computer or a stand-alone DVD player when it freezes? Hvar you tried to play the DVD from the DVDA VIDEO_TS with a software player?

I have tried to play it on both my computer (Windows media player)and on my regular DVD player. The exact same thing happens.

Let me clarify your answer. Did you play the DVDA video_ts folder (video_TS.ifo...), not the DVD, and it froze?

I am afraid you lost me now. What is video_TS.ifo folder?

I am beginning to wonder if I should just try to redo the whole project and see what happens. I made a test with a few videoclips (including the one that keeps freezing), some audio and transitions, and everything burned perfectly.

Could it be that the project contains too much media? I have used a lot of pictures and transitions, however shouldn`t there be a message saying that the disc is full? When i press the button "fit to disc", it says that there is enough space there. And hopefully there should be a way to make projects that are longer than 15 minutes!? (If not, I will have a lot of discs to produce...)

What is video_TS.ifo folder? When DVDA prepares a DVD it creates a VIDEO_TS folder which contains all the files for the DVD. When you preview your DVD with DVDA it does not play these files. You can play the DVD files in the VIDEO_TS folder with software DVD players like WinDVD. If they play correctly then your problem is most likly a DVD burn problem. To find where your VIDEO_TS folder is located in DVDA gor to toolbar and select Options > Preferances and select the burning tab. The DVD Prepare folder contains the path to your Project Folder and VIDEO_TS folder.
