Burning to a 8.5 Gig DVD

Hey guys. I have had no issues with burning project untill now. I am running windows XP pro with a gig of memory. Video card is the Nvida 5700 LE and sound blaster live.

I have a project that is 7.7 gigs big and trying to burn on a 8.5 gig dual layer DVD. The DVD is a Memorex Double Layer DVD + R DL. I am using a Sony USB Dual RW Drive (double layer) DVD Drive.

All of my projects go on the 4.7 gig DVD without any issues but when trying to burn on a 8.5 DVD I am having problems.

Should this burn correctly without any problems or is there a setting in Sony Architect that I am not aware of. Is there a Driver that I need? I am running version 3.0. The error I get is an MPEG error which I know is no the case because if I split the project into (2) 4.7 gig DVD's it burns just fine.

Any Idea's what couple be going wrong??

Thanks

DVDA should be asking you some additional information when burning a DL disk (like where you want to insert the layer break) - is it doing this? If not, then for whatever reason, DVDA doesn't think you've got a DL disk and that could explain your problems.

Make sure your burner firmware is up to date.

You might also want to try downloading the fully functional trial version of CopyToDVD from www.vso-software.com and see if you have better luck.

Thanks for the response Scott. It isn't asking me anything but I just noticed that in properties under mastering there is a number of layer button that was set for one layer. I should set that to 2 I gues since its a dual layer DVD right??

I will check my burner firmware now and that other program.

Go into Preferences>Burning, and set the Space Available to 8.50.

OK, I got an error occured while writing the file. Invalid data was encountered when processing an mpeg file.

But I just set the burning Preferences to 8.5 and I am trying again. Is it possible to get that error if the buring preferences was set to 4.7??

Thanks

All the setting are set correctly and when I break this into 2 dvd's it burns fine. Any other ideas how I can fix this??
