Burning to CD

rap0816 wrote on 1/21/2004, 1:43 PM
I am a newbie and am using Vegas 4e.. I rendered my project to mpeg2. The rendered file size is 656,930 KB. I used Tools/ Burn CD/ Multimedia CD to burn the SVCD. The blank CD-R media is 80min/700MB. I am getting the error message that the file size is too big for the CD.

1. Can somebody advise why? the blank media is 700MB & rendered file is 656MB.
2. Can somebody advise the max rendered mpeg2 file I can burn to a CD? Thanks for your info.

The detailed error message is
'ATAPI MMC Compatible'-(0)
'IdeChnDr'-(1)
-'CDWRITER IDE4816 482G'-(0)
Module mmc.cpp Line 414

Status: 00020202

I was able to burn the CD. Instead of rendering the file to mpeg2, I just selected the Tools/Burn CD/ Multimedia CD.

The CD plays in my PC using the WMP. However, this CD does not play in a Samsung DVD player or a new Sony DVD player. The Sony DVD player is model DVP-NS725P is a new player and can play SVCD.

Does anybody have any info on this?

Thanks for your help.

Everything you ever wanted to know about VCDs, SVCD, and DVDs. Look for their player compatibility listing. DGrob

Thanks for your info.

I checked the knowledge database and found the answer ID 734. According to the CD manufacturer, Verbatim, no audio CD should be written at a speed higher than 2x. Data CDs can be written much faster, but an audio CD should be finalized at 2x to make sure it is compatible with most CD players.

I used 48x but still the SVCD won't work in my Sony DVP-NS725P player.

Any info will be apprciated.

I'm a little lost here. I don't think you can get an SVCD straight out of Vegas. Just VCDs or computer-complient "Multimedia CDs." Check their help files.

To get SVCDs (before I just went ahead and upgraded to +DVDA) I had to render my Vegas project file to an *.avi. I then used Nero 6 (from among others) to author, "transcode," and burn my SVCDs, which played just fine in a variety of DVD players. (DO NOT render a Vegas mpeg2 and author that in Nero, you get an "transcoded" mpeg2 of an mpeg2 - which sucks.)

Just what is your SVCD production process? DGrob

Thanks DGrob,

I have ACEDVio with Vegas 4.0 & Uliead DVD MovieFactory 2 SE.

I did the SVCD based on the book by Douglas Spotted Eagle. The Vegas 4 Editing Workshop by Douglas Spotted Eagle describes the procedure to create the VCD & SVCD in page 384, Chapter 12 Output & Export. This procedure is what you described Tools /Burn CD/ Multimedia CD.

Can you confirm that the VCD & SVCD created this way is for computer use only? Not for playing in VCD / SVCD DVD players?

I used Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 SE to burn another SVCD and the SVCD works in my Sony DVD Player.

Thanks for your help.

It's not in front of me right now, but I think if you look up "Multimedia CDs" in the Vegas Help file it specifies that the resulting CD is for computer playback only. It's been a while since I read the stuff, so please don't take my word for it.

I think the VCDs play fine in players.

Thanks for your info.

The Vegas help file confirms Multimedia CD's is for computer playback and VCD's can be played in DVD players.

I will have to do VCD's until I can save enough for DVDA and a DVD writer.

Hang in there, you won't regret it. I had to play the same waiting game - but now, what fun! DGrob
