Button Highlight on Menu

Ken Brits wrote on 11/24/2013, 2:18 AM
Hi all. When I create a menu with a few chapter / buttons it always shows the first button highlighted. Now, after the first clip finishes playing and returns to the menu, it still shows the first button highlighted. How does one set it up that it will highlight the next chapter / button when it returns to the menu? Thanks

It is explained in the help (F1) or in the manual.
Just enter your video. See action in Properties -> Destination ...

A copy/paste for you, but my help file is in french :
Destination

The end action takes you to a specific menu. The default is the last menu used and it always highlights the first link in the menu. If you want to make it look like the next item is highlighted, then you need a new menu with the next link at the top. Don't change the position in the menu screen - just the link.

Yes it's a lot of work, but it does function the way you are asking. Don't blame Sony, this is the way the DVD structure works. But to Sony's credit, DVDA does not duplicate assets, so you could add dozens of menus to the project overview referencing the same background and buttons, changing only the order of the links, and that would add very little overhead to the prepared project size.

I have done that to the main menu in this example. Disk Start is on Main Menu-1. The End Action for the second link is Main Menu-2. This gives the appearance of the highlighted button moving.

"In the END ACTION of your video, you can enter the MENU you want to go to, as well as the BUTTON that you want to highlight."

Yes, you can do this with the end action of the video, but at the end of a menu you can activate a link in the current menu after a timeout but you can't highlight the desired link - it's always the first link in the menu.

You could probably achieve what the OP wants by having a separate video for each menu button.

Thanks to all that have responded. I am finishing a DVD at the moment and will work through all the suggestions to see which will work for me. Many thanks

" you can program the end action to return to the menu and Highlight a different chapter (so you can play chapter 2 without navigating)."

No, you can't. Talk me through it. If there's a way to do this, I would like to see it.

Dave, that's exactly what I said previously. You do have the desired control of the end action of the video, but not the end action of the menu.

If the OP generates a separate video file for each chapter, then you can select the appropriate menu and button with the video end action.

Or imports an instance of one video file in respect of each chapter, setting the in and out points for each as appropriate.

Where did Dave go?

Yes, I forgot about doing that instead of individual chapter files. Again, DVDA is smart enough to not duplicate the content, so this would be the best solution to the OP's question.
