buttons, etc.

Hi,
I am new to the whole DVD thing, having made old fashioned slideshows so far.
I have a question that may sound silly.

If I want to make my own buttons. What program shall I use. I have tried adobe photoshop and other programs, but I don´t get good results. You can only produce good looking rectangular designs, no circles, etc.. I tried gifs, as I use it when doing some webdesign, but it didn´t work. What I am looking for are really nice self-made buttons with some translucent borders that will look good in the menu, when having a movie as Background. I know this is not a really professional program, but I´d like to achieve something like the menu in the DVD of Star wars Episode I.

Now you sure are all laughing at me, but I thought I´d give it a try.

Thanks in advance,
Wolfgang

What I did was opened all the .tga buttons I had In Pinnacles Studio 8 (lousy product-loads of great buttons!) and saved them as .png files using Photoshop. Worked a treat!

Thanks for the idea, alastair, but I am looking for an invisible background. Something like the Chroma Keyer in Vegas 4.0.
That way I am producing the leader in my videos.

Is there a way to make my buttons in Photoshop and then import them to DVDA without the ugly background?

The way I described does just that i.e. I have a frame or button with a transparent area which shows up as grey checkerboxes. When I import it into Vegas or DVDA, the transparent area is just that, and allows whatevers underneath to show through.

When you do File New in photoshop, I'm sure the dialogue box has the option to have the background as transparent.
