C++ Runtime Error

I tried to add introductory media to a project in DVDA from the properties dialog. I clicked the folder icon in the properties dialog but a second or two after the open dialog opened I got a runtime error and had no choice but to close DVDA. I tried rebooting, etc. and can't figure out a way to successfully open the open dialog.

Next I went back to Vegas 4 and tried to render a different part of the project and the Render As... dialog in Vegas is now doing the same thing. The dialog opens then the runtime error occurs. I had just rendered the intro video a few minutes before this so it WAS working until the crash in DVDA.

Here's the error message from Vegas:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Vegas 4.0\vegas40.exe

This application has required the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The error message in DVDA is the same except for the program line which is as follows:

Program: C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\DVD Architect 1.0\dvdarch.exe

1. Do you have the latest updates?
2. Is your HD defraged?
3. If you have norton Utilities, have you run Win Doctor?
4. have you scanned for viruses?

Try these first. If it stil, happens, then you should probably re-install.

I agree with PH125. Sounds like a file got fudged up (probley a shared file). Try using scandisk to see if anything is crosslinked. also, have you had your computer crash/freeze/reboot without going through the shutdown menu lately?

I've run scandisk, scanned for viruses, installed the latest versions of DVDA and Vegas and did a defrag. Nothing helped.

Have not had a hard crash in quite some time.

Any other ideas? How do I get help from Sony? I can't render a thing.

At the top of this page is a link to 'Support'

Hover over it and the menu will give you several options, amongst which is e-mail and telephone.
