Helllppp. I feel like screaming. I have a Sony TRV17-and it has a DV jack on it tha is an i.LINK-complian DV input/output jack. doesn't that mean that I can use it as a convertor since I am trying to copy my movie to VHS tape??? I am so frustrated. I've tried everything. Please help. It doesn't recognize the camcorder. The Preview on Device and Record to Device are always grayed out. ??? I'm about to give up

I can understand your frustration. However, it would be helpful if you could supply more information.

First thing is to determine if you hardware is connected properly. With the camera turned on and plugged in and the capture program running, click on the "Video" menu and you should see "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR" selected. If not, then you have a hardware/driver problem.

If you're OK so far and you still the "Preview on Device" and "Record to Device" buttons greyed out, then you probably don't have a file loaded. Just click File/Open and find your NTSC or PAL DV rendered video.

Ok. Here is my setup in more detail. First off, I have spoken with sony and confirmed everything on the camcorder side is setup correctly. The only thing is sony is telling me to put the camera in VCR mode and Sonic Foundry says Standby mode???
I have tried both. I have clicked on the Capture icon. I opened the movie and it is shown in the Preview window. I go to Video and I see DVC 80 Video Capture(2) and Microsoft DV Camera & VCR but neither one are selected. You can't select them. I did click on MS DV Camera & VCR but the Preview on Device and Record to Device are still ghosted.

Any suggestions???

What are your OS and machine specs? Do you have DirectX 8.1 installed?

The only reason I can think of for the Camera being detected but not selectable is if another application is using the device.

If I were you, I'd unplug the Dazzle device and uninstall any Dazzle software. Your TRV-17 will do a much better job of getting analog video to and from your computer.

I just read on the Vegas forum that the program "Download Accelerator" can tie up the camera device and cause the situation which you've described. If you have it, uninstall it.

BTW, VCR is the correct mode for your Camera for all operations within VF.

I was having the same problem when running Video Capture by itself. If I start Video Factory first and then run 'Capture Video' from file menu then it works.
