Dear fellow Vegas affectionados,

I am new here but I have been working with Vegas 5 for a few weeks now. Mostly editing already made music videos to learn the ropes. I have worked in radio broadcasting before so im happy to say that my learning curve is steep.

I will buy a camera this week, probably a Panasonic type. It will either be NV-DS65, NV-GS33 or NV-GS15

QUESTION: Are this cameras compatible with Vegas 5?
Does anyone own a Panasonic camera, can they enlightenen me on the quality?
What specifications should I look for in a camera?

Thank you very much. Regards

All three are Vegas-compatible, yes.
It appears to be a decent palm corder, in the sub 1K cams, I find it hard to find anything distinguishing from one to the other. The Panny has their fairly well known "skin mode" built into it, so that is a nice feature.
With specs....in that price range you're more looking at wanting glass vs plastic lenses, warranty, support. Most of them are either 1/6 or 1/8 pixels, so they aren't terribly different from each other. This one is glass, has a good warranty, and has analog and digital inputs. Very reasonable cam for the hobbyist or just-getting-started shooter.

We shoot:
2-Z1's
A few XL1s
GL1/2
Thomson LDK 750

and a few assorted odds and ends of the palm corder type cams, mostly used for training or blimp cams at the Utah Jazz or SL Buzz games on the very rare occasion we need them.

I would suggest that you look for a Camcorder with a 3.5 inch LCD vs. the 2.5 on the Panasonics. It makes a huge difference.

Also, There are many great used Mini-DV Camcorders like the Sony TRV-8 and Sony TRV-10 on Ebay.

The Sony TRV-38 is also worth checking out.
