Atma:

Open the program. Capture some video (go to file, capture video0 OR use media pool to load in some existing video (.avi file).

Drop it on the time line by dragging it there, and try a few things. It's dead easy man!

Have fun!

Vegas is NOT an easy program to learn if you are a complete beginner without any past experience with NLE. But with a good tutorial book or DVD, you'll soon find the ropes and have fun editing like a pro. Remember, it takes time, interest and effort on your part.

Drop me an email and I'll share my startup experience with Vegas.

I bought Douglas Spotted Eagle's book "VEGAS 4 Editing Workshop" through
Amazon .com..highly recommended. It's sitting on my lap right now. I am an Audio engineer who is just getting into VV editing. This book is a great tutorial and works great as a reference when I've been away from the program for a couple weeks and need some reminders.

Also Jetdv's newsletters are great! see above post. I download them to my pda for some excellent airplane reading when I'm on the road.

I would start with the Vegas Manual. Then continue with Douglas very good book already mentioned. Then go for the training/tutorial DVDs from VASST, Edward Troxel/Timothy Duncan and Sony. For links to resources looki looki here: http://www.blue7media.com/vegas/

The beauty of DSE's book, Vegas 4 Editing Workshop, is that it is so readable. Not being an audio expert, some of the audio terms were new to me, but they still pretty much made sense the way they were used.

I learned watching The Douglas Spotted Eagle DVD set and a lot of practice and experimenting and of course reading this and other forums. Generated a few bad videos (which the viewers thought were just great)and continue to learn.

There are a lot of resources out there and Vegas is a very forgiving program. Best of luck and welcome to the club!
