can anyone think why?

All of a sudden, i am getting dropped frames!

I just bought a Sony DSR PD170 camera and capturing is resulting in quite a few dropped frames whereas previously on my Canon XM2, i never got dropped frames.

Can anyone think why this could make a difference? Also, any solutions on how to get around it.

The new camera is the only thing that has changed in my setup.

Thanks,

T

have you got access to another PC with any kind of capture util?

Do you have scene detection on?
If so try capturing the same tape with it off.
Also as a matter of interest, RClick some captured media and check the audio track properties.
Bob.

I just managed to capture a couple of minutes to my Laptop, straight to the Primary HDD (too lazy to hook up my external drive) and it captured without any issues.

What anomalies would I be looking for in the Audio props Bob?

Anyhoo, I'll defrag in the morning (it's after 1AM here in Oz) and see if that makes a difference.

Thank for the replies lads,

T

I capture only 2 channels audio not the dubbable four.
Had problems with speed of my firewire card.

Is this a factory fresh 170? Some grey market web dealers
have poorly reworked stock. (If you paid near $2000 instead of
$3000 probably was a grey market camera. Get the $300 rebate?)

Rebate? Tell me more.... :)

The rebate question was to check if you bought from an authorized
dealer. Info here:

Let us know how you make out because this is a very good camera.
Make sure you don't mix tapes or at least use a SOny tape cleaner
between switching tape brands.

Sonic Foundry has had this article in their Knowledge Base for quite some time and it has always been very helpful:

How to ensure successful DV Capture and Print to Tape.

John

Try also turning off video preview and deck control. Use manual capture instead.
