can edit in wide screen cant render to wide screen

Using Platinum 9 and so far it's been really stable and I like the minor enhancements.

I'm trying to do my first project in wide screen 720 mode. I've edited the video clip and the edited clip in wide screen preview looks good. When I render the video in wide screen the playback is standard screen. I've tried to render using the different wide screen templates but they all seem to be standard screen mode when I play back in media player.

Is there a setting I'm missing to get my clip to render and play back in 720 wide screen?

Sorry, but your explanation is not precise. What kind of "720" is this? NTSC 720x480 DV, PAL 720x576 DV, or 1280x720 HD?

In any way, you need to make sure you are using the right project properties, and when you export at the end, you export in a REAL widescreen resolution with square pixel aspect ratio, e.g. if you ar on PAL, you need to export at 1048x576, not 720x576.

E, can you explain how you get those numbers (1048x576). Or point me to the tutorial you once wrote about aspect ratio (I know it exists, but can't locate it anymore). Or is there a table, perhaps?

Thanks for the reply! Well I think I'm confusing myself. I thought I could just render to any 720 format and be done, but obviously that's not the case. (:

I would like to get my video to play on my 720P wide screen HD TV, which would be 1280x720 HD?

I think what's confusing me is that the manual talks about how to save to different media like YouTube, PSP Media, DV Camera and rendering to different file formats etc. but I can't seem to find anything in the document referring how to create a wide screen movie.

BTW, I did a search on the forum and it did not bring anything up that could help with this, if anyone knows of a thread that can assist that will be great!

I'm editing stills and video from a friend who supplied me with 30fps .avi videos from a digital camera I think it's a sony but not sure of the model. I also have some 30fps .avi vids and pictures from a Canon 720is.

I think I resolved the issue!! Thanks to your link, in the previous post, I have a little better understanding of the aspect ratios and wide screen formats.

In my original video, even though the preview was in widescreen I noticed the black border on the left and right side of the frame which your link mentioned. This keyed me to look at the frame cropping and verify that it was set to the right format

Your link got me thinking, and I went into Event Pan/Crop and selected the "16:9 Widescreen TV aspect ratio" preset. This automatically sets the frame in the photo or vid to wide screen! (;

Thank you so much for steering me in the right direction.

Now if anyone has any tips how to get Event Pan/Crop to automatically open in "16:9 Widescreen TV aspect ratio" format by default rather than pulling down the preset for every photo or video that would be the icing! ((:

The pan/crop is not the right way of doing this. You need to use the "match media" icon on the project properties of Vegas to get a real widescreen, automatically, in the preview screen. You are losing quality the way you are doing it now.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check the "match media" settings. I didn't realize the quality would be affected.

I'm realizing that there are so many things to consider when working with wide screen.
