MXF files, in general, aren't all that portable. MXF is a container format, just like MOV and AVI, but is not as commonly used. The audio and video formats (and the video bit rate) contained in the MXF file can be quite variable and can create compatibility problems with various NLEs and media players. This issue came up here, recently in that long thread that had various posts about using XDCAM HD 422 MXF files as an intermediate editing format in Vegas Pro. The portability issue was brought up as one stumbling block to the format's generally usage as an intermediate.
So to cut to the chase, were is the FCP plugin that I need to recommend in order for my Mac friends to be able to read my .mxf XDCAM footage?

Laurence,
That's what I linked to in my post above. Download the release notes for the latest version on that page.
The next FCP update with leopard is due any time soon, which will apparently handle XDCam Clips.
I was having a chat to some FCP trainers over here, giving courses and they say that the next update is going to be awesome.
Let's wait and see.
