Can i convert 16:9 to 4:3 with current version Vegas MS

I have a Panny GS400 and "filmed" some dog agility runs this past weekend in 16:9. But a friend only has 4:3 TV.

Will the current version of Vegas Movie Studio+DVD convert a 16:9 to 4:3 WITHOUT the black bars? iow, cropping of the 16:9.

and IF it does a crop, can i change where it crops? in some sequences i need the the left portion cropped out, and in other sequences the right portion cropped out.

is this pretty straight forward for a newbie?

thanks,
ron

This is straightforward - if a little laborious - using the Pan and Crop tool.

Set the project properties to your target 4:3 aspect ratio and import your 16:9 media clips. By default MS will pad out the clips with black bars top and bottom. However, apply the Pan and Crop tool to each clip individually (...by right clicking on each clip, and selecting "Pan and Crop"). There is a 4:3 template which allows you complete freedom to select a 4:3 crop of any part of the frame, and also to "pan" between a different crop at the start and end of each clip.

It's quite a fun process (providing you don't have too many separate clips to crop) and you can view the results immediately in the preview pane.

It's also a great tool for livening up slideshows, and for straightening crooked horizons!

Have fun!
