The drive speed is inconsequential at this level. The 1700 is barely gonna get you by. I'm surprised you're getting good DV/SD results.
HD, or HDV? Two different animals. HDV is same datarate as DV, but because it is native MPEG in long GOP, it's painful on the processor. If you use the Cineform codec, Connect HD, you'll be happy, as it handles just like DV.
Do a search on this forum there have been LOTS of questions asked.

I appreciate the feedback. What do you mean when you say the drive speed is inconsequential "at this level"? And what min processsor speed would you recommend?

I'm using files that were captured via the JVC MPEG Edit Studio Pro LE, if that means anything.

I recommend at least a 2.8 gig proc speed.
And the 10K drive speed isn't that important. If you have it, great. But don't go out and buy 10K drives because it's HDV. 7200 rpm drives are more than adequate.
