I have cd architect 4.0. I was going to copy a music cd
(for back up purposes, of course), but I would like to
delete some less than nice words. Can I use cd arch to do
this?
Yes, very simply. However, you will also edit out any music that is
behind the lyrics you wish to do without.
Here's how:
Open the .wav file into your audio pool and then add it to your
playlist as if you were building a CD.
Find the spots that you want to edit out; place the cursor at the
beginning of the first spot and press the 's' key. This will split
the file at the location of your cursor. Place the cursor at the end
of the first edit spot and again press the 's' key. This will again
split the file at the location of your cursor.
Point your mouse arrow at the section of the file between the two
splits that you just created; right click your mouse and
pick "delete" from the pop-up menu. This will remove that section of
your .wav file from your playlist. The section of the .wav file to
the right of the section that you just deleted should move backward
in time and butt up to the section preceeding your edit.
You might need to use some creativity in your edits as it will
definitely sound chopped at your edit points. The use of crossfades
may help to eliminate some clicks or pops at your edit points (caused
by sudden changes in sample values from one section of audio to the
next).
Repeat this procedure for each section of the song that you want to
delete.
When you are finished editing, check your track index markers and
adjust if necessary.
Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there is no way to successfully
remove a vocal from a mixed audio track. Some units that use phase
cancellation techniques do a halfway decent job on some songs and
don't work at all on others. Your best bet is to try to find a "radio
mix" of the song(s) that you find objectionable lyrics in. There is
sometimes a 2nd version of these type of songs released specifically
for radio airplay.
Good luck!
