The only thing i can think of would be to create a "music compilation" disc, which will work for video too. Add your original video as the first item and set the out point to be the frame where the replacement clip starts. Add the replacement clip as the second item. Add the original video again as the third item and set the in point to be the frame after the replacement clip ends. DVDA will only place one copy of the original video on the disc since it's the same file used for both items 1 and 3.

Not sure how well menues will work with this. It may be more effort than it's worth. Rerender the whole video, let it run overnight while you enjoy family time and sleep. Create the DVD with a single, newly created and fixed file in the morning.

Yes, rendering is the most logical way to go.

Besides, I just discovered a misplaced credit roll running under instead of over the background.
