I use a shareware package called 'cool edit' from www.syntrillium.com. The old version 'cool edit 96' allows you to use two functions at a time in the shareware version; their newest version is 'cool edit 2000' (or 2001) and has more restrictions on its use.
The package allows you to record and edit sound files - works quite well.
I'm sure acid pro outperforms it, but at considerably greater expense...

You can use any "ripper" to take music off of CD. If you rip to WAV, you can then easily insert this into VideoFactory. You don't need any other softare. Acid is a loop-based music production tool. If you need to modify your sound files, you need an audio editor like Sound Forge XP or Cool Edit 2000. Two good, free rippers are CDex and EAC (Exact Audio Copy). Search for them on Google. THe latter even has a primitive audio editor built in.
