Can I give Vegas away legally?

Just searched but can't find it...I have versions going back to V4 which of course I don't use any longer. I have a friend that just needs some audio software...can I give him an old version legally?
Thanks,
Randy

Randy,
He will need to activate the s/w.
Send an email to SONY to say you have transferred the license.
In the past, once, when I sold an older version of DVDA, that what I needed to do.
HTH,
Tom

Yes, he will need to activate the software after you transfer the license. He will NOT be eligible for upgrade pricing on future versions.

Thanks John, I did know that much...I was just thinking it may be like Sonar where you can't even give anything away legally...in fact I think it's in the EULA you can't even think about it!!!

Actually, the license retains it's upgrade-eligibility status. I got a friend into Sound Forge 10 cheaply by transferring one of my version 8 licenses to him. I had never used that license for upgrading, so he was able to upgrade it to 10 with the upgrade discount.

Of course, if you have upgraded then the new owner won't be able to.

don't e-mail, they added the license transfer option to the "ask a question" page:
here.

category- activation - license transfer.

Some companies will get mad at you if you ask about this. I consider ourselves honored to have a company that actually didn't take our right away to resell the software we purchased. 8)

I agree. Sony should be applauded for not restricting this.

That's how I got V8 - bought it from someone who upgraded to 9. I think it's a smart move on Sony's part. I am now a Vegas fan and plan on staying with them. It's superior in many ways to what I was using before.
